Day 20: How Important do I Think Education Is

Education has always been a very strong part of my life. From the time I learned how to speak I've always been a learner. I was lucky to have a good role model from an early age, he was a school teacher and the son of the lady that took care of me when I was maybe around 3-5 years old. He taught me how to read before I even reached pre-school. I remember to this day how much I loved to learn new things and how much I was able to absorb. I was only a Spanish speaker until I reached kindergarten at around the age of 6, when I went to my first school in the US. I remember starting school and not knowing what a single kid was saying, not even the teacher. But thankfully she spoke Spanish too, and before the end of that school year I was 100% bilingual, including knowing how to read and write words in Spanish and English.

From that early age I've always had a passion for education. I was your typical nerdy kid in elementary school, the girl that got all the certificates and awards, got straight A's and was designated the teacher's pet....I was Lisa Simpson, haha! And much like Lisa, I already knew at that young age I would go to college to no matter what. When I was a Freshman in high school I had already planned out my high school path and my college career. I knew what I wanted and I knew what I needed to do to get it. I worked towards scholarships and financial aid because I knew my parent's couldn't afford college. I knew my continued education was important enough for me to go that extra mile.

Although I at times changed paths in life, education has always been a strong beacon in my life. After completing my bachelor's degree, even though my path was thrown off track a bit, I still knew no matter where I headed in life, eventually I would get my master's degree. Eventually I found my way and was lucky to have the opportunity to complete my desired master's degree in 2010.

My education is still not complete, I strongly feel that education can only take me further in life, and I have more plans for my life past what I've already accomplished. No matter where I end up in life, education will always be incredibly important to me. I not only consider education as part of my strength as a person, I also consider my education as part of my career arsenal. In order to get ahead in life you have to learn how to play the game, and having the right pieces definitely helps =).
